Fine Handicraft Designation Program

Gwangju Metropolitan City and the Gwangju Institute of Design Promotion are discovering and certifying outstanding craft and cultural products that embody the unique heritage of the region through the Gwangju Fine Handicraft and Cultural Product Designation Program. The selected works are systematically managed and supported to enhance their value and presence.

Established under Gwangju Metropolitan City Ordinance No. 1232, this program aims to preserve and carry forward the identity and value of Gwangju’s craft culture, while improving the quality and market competitiveness of locally produced craft and cultural products.

Eligibility

Products manufactured in Gwangju Metropolitan City that meet one or more of the following criteria are eligible for designation (imitation and unfinished products are excluded)

  • 1 Craft and cultural products classified as cultural products under the Framework Act on the Promotion of Cultural Industries.
  • 2 Creative craft and cultural products that combine artistic beauty and market appeal, based on traditional craftsmanship and design aesthetics.
  • 3 Other craft and cultural products created by individual artisans or studios/workshops located in Gwangju Metropolitan City.

Support Details and Duration

Support Details

  • 1 Package design and production
  • 2 Issuance of certification plaque and certificate (granting the right to use the official “O’Hands” designation mark)
  • 3 Support for product mass production
  • 4 Intellectual property rights application assistance
  • 5 Distribution and marketing support

Designation Period

Valid for two years from the date of designation (with the option to apply for a one-year extension upon review).
